St. John’s Episcopal Church

is located on Main St., Wellsville, NY just a block north of the business district of downtown Wellsville.  Wellsville is a village of 4630 residence in rural Allegany Co.  approximately 12 miles north of the Pennsylvania border.   We have a full time 24/7 police department and volunteer fire and ambulance service.  We have a full service Hospital (Jones Memorial Hospital/UR Strong),

Our church has a membership of approximately 30 parishioners.  We have a 9 member choir who provide music for our services.  At the present time we are without a priest and are in the search process.  While we are in that search process we have a 9 member worship team, licensed to perform morning prayer services. We are using a supply priest several times a month to perform Eucharist. The Worship team is enjoying the experience of leading worship.  Our services are at 11 AM Sunday mornings, but in the months of July and August we have over the last several years changed the Sunday morning worship time to 10 AM and weather permitting we are doing some outside services on our front lawn.  This summer we are also going to have several Saturday evening services.   We are also sharing what we call Fifth Sunday services where we are gathering with members of the two other Episcopal Churches (Angelica and Cuba) for services.

Our church is very active in community outreach.  Before the Covid pandemic our church provided community meals twice a month at our church for those in need.  Since the pandemic shut this down and parishioners are still uncomfortable in using our basement level dining, our church has joined with several other churches, community organizations and the David Howe Library and we are putting on community meals once a month at this time (hoping to expand in the future). These meals are located at the library which is centrally located on Main St., Wellsville. We also have partnership with the County Bus Service and have placed a bus stop in front of our church for those people using our County Bus Service.  Prior to getting the bus shelter in place, riders would stand on or sit in our entranceway to board the bus.   Our provisional Bishop just dedicated the Bus Shelter this month.    We also provide boot, gloves and coats to needy school children in the Wellsville Central School in the winter.  In spring we provide sneakers to the same students in need.
